"The world is full of hopeful analogies and handsome, dubious eggs, called possibilities."“Once you stop looking for love you will find it” but I do know they were wrong. I tried it for a very long time and found only apathy awaited me. The less effort I put in, I of course met less people and stayed in my safe familiar routine.I give more credence to someone who advised me that by pursuing your own interests and doing what you love, you are more likely to find someone who has the same interests. Unfortunately, my sedentary interests are not really conducive with meeting new people. I have come to realize that I have become stuck in my comfort zone. I guess I am probably like many of you who realize that looking online is a now a viable option whereas it once had a bit of a stigma attached to it.Which is not to say that I don’t like the outdoors since I do enjoy camping, hiking, barbecues with friends, that sort of casual stuff. I certainly would do more of it if I had a partner that shared those interests. I have lost 75 pounds in the last 2 years and continue on the path of better health and a more active lifestyle. I realize saying that you are “trying” to lose weight is a bit like people who say they are “trying” to quit smoking. That is why I have only brought it up now after I have done it long enough to know it is not something I will give up on. I also want to find someone who will encourage and join me in more active adventures, even just a simple hike.I certainly don't think it is wrong to look online, I just think we may limit ourselves. I have a friend who has dated a few guys she met online and said something that really made sense. She said that she probably judges too quickly. Some people she dismisses just based on pics or one badly written paragraph in their profile.She mentioned how one serious relationship she had years ago she never would have had if it were someone online. She worked with a guy that she did not find physically attractive, and did not think was interesting. After working with him over several months, he opened up more and his great personality came through and she found herself thinking he was attractive, both inside and out. Although it ended after several years, she looks back on it fondly, and wonders how many of the guys she went on just the one date with, or did not even respond to online, may have been her perfect match. I guess we all may be guilty of that, expecting *** So I am striving to be more open and hope others out there will do the same. I do crave and thrive on intellectual stimuli. This does not mean the subject has to be heavy or controversial, it simply means I enjoy verbal communication with someone who can contribute but not dominate the conversation. The know-it-all people of the world are the biggest turn-off! I really enjoy when a relationship reaches the comfortable level. I know some who need constant drama but I love when it becomes comfortable and even a bit routine. This does not mean boring or stagnant.One of my favorite activities with friends is “wine cheese” night. We buy all different types of cheese and crackers along with assorted toppings. We gather together and slice up the cheese and toppings while drinking wine and talking. Just the prep time can take an hour. A simple pleasure that I find never gets old.I know this might sound a bit cliche’ but the biggest turn-on to me is a wicked, sharp, self-deprecating sense of humor. I can find humor in almost anything and appreciate that in others. Here are my deal breakers:Sense of humor. Top of the list. Has to be there. Even if you are somewhat shy, as long as you appreciate and understand my sense of humor, we are off to a great start. If you are too serious, there is no chance for us to mesh.You must not use the word irregardless. You must have basic grammar skills such as never stating, “I seen that.”You must love animals. You must be able to eat without your mouth open and you do not scrape your teeth across the fork.You drink socially but events, meals etc. do not get planned around the fact that you will be able to drink at said event.I will in turn offer you loyalty, humor, adventure, conversation, hopefully everything you are looking for. I love good conversation and friendly debates.
