Most Americans Would Not Wait till the Second Date to Have Sex

More than half of Americans aren't shy when it comes to having a sexual encounter right away. This was highlighted in a poll, carried out by Meetville.com (dating app to find the right person) between 2/3/14 and 9/1/14.

The poll measured people’s responses to the question: “Would you consider sleeping with someone on the first date?” The results were as follows: “Yes” - 60%, “No” - 40%.

Respondents numbered 145,059, From the USA - 73%, from Canada - 2%, from Britain - 7%, from Australia - 4% and from other countries - 14%.

Philip N. Cohen, sociology professor at the University of Maryland, www.mommyish.com says “a relationship is doomed if you don’t like each other – and liking each other has nothing to do with whether or not you had sex on the first date. Early sex doesn’t destroy the prospect of longer term relationships. Moreover, as sex is always better with someone you have feelings for, that more positive experience of the first time together can surely only help.”

It should be noted that among those who wouldn't mind sleeping on the first date 66% of the votes were male, and 34% - female.

Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst,  believes than “Men are twice as likely as women to respond affirmatively perhaps contributing to current gender stereotypes.” He also assumes that it may be more common with married men as “they are not looking for just another relationship but for sexual fulfillment.”
