Public View on the Presence of Religion in Upbringing of Children

“Children today are less familiar with religious texts; however, parents are sure this knowledge is”
By Alex Glover August 21, 2015

Children today are less familiar with religious texts; however, parents are sure this knowledge is important for them. Meetville.com (dating app to find the right person) addressed the topic in a poll, conducted from the 3/21/14 to the 9/18/14.

People were asked: “Should kids be taught religion at an early age?”

With a majority of 63% of votes, religious education was supported by 118,131 participants of the poll.

Dr Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury, said: "I'd like to see schools introducing children to the Lord's Prayer, so that they know that it's there, they know what it means and know why it matters. Then they may make up their minds about whether they use it.

52% were Americans, supporting the idea that religion plays a significant part in their lives. Religion's presence in British (13%)  and Canadian (5%)  culture, however, is somewhat subdued in comparison to the United States. From Australia the participants made up 6% and from other countries – 24%.

Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, assumes “the main aim of supporters of religious education is to foster a spirit of tolerance, cooperation and understanding both within the community and in the wider world.”
