Modern Feminism Turns Men to Househusbands
Today men are raising the children while mums are the breadwinners. A new survey, held by Meetville.com (dating app to find the right person) from 2/3/14 to 21/8/14, shows that the phenomenon of the househusband has seen a rapid explosion in numbers.
The poll raised the question: “Do you approve of househusbands?” 61% voted “Yes” and 39% - “No”.
139,341 people participated in the poll. From the USA - 73%, from Canada - 2%, from Britain - 7%, from Australia - 4% and from other countries -14%.
Dennis Cauchon, USA TODAY, writes in his article that the trend is less about choice and nurture than an economic necessity. “The earning superiority of women over men isn't the rule, but it becomes increasingly common. And as the cost of childcare holds intolerable for many families, more wives take on the breadwinning role in their marriages.”
The statistics also reveals that among those who approve of househusbands, the votes distributed in the following manner: male: 57%, female: 43%.
Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, sees a positive shift in men’s perception of their new role. “Becoming a househusband isn’t an easy choice. But finally men are starting to see that they are appreciated in the family and being a ‘househusband’ doesn’t make you any less of a man after all.”
Meetville, a leading mobile dating service, regularly conducts research among its users. Millions of people from the U.S., Canada, Britain and Australia answer hundreds of questions every month.
