Global Attitude Towards Homosexuality

Public attitudes towards gays and lesbians are rapidly changing to reflect greater acceptance, with younger generations leading the way. Opinions of 52,601 participants were measured in a poll, conducted by Meetville.com (dating app to find the right person) between 6/13/14 and 9/26/14.

People were invited to respond to the following question: “What is your attitude towards homosexuality?” 62% of respondents support homosexuality.

Starting with President Obama’s speech in favor of homosexuality at a “gay-pride” ceremony in the White House, public support began to increase significantly as well. "If we're honest with ourselves, we'll acknowledge that there are good and decent people in this country who don't yet fully embrace their gay brothers and sisters — not yet." Obama proclaimed: "We must continue to do our part to make progress — step by step, law by law, mind by changing mind. And I want you to know that in this task I will not only be your friend, I will continue to be an ally and a champion and a president who fights with you and for you."

66% participants from the USA chose to express their positive attitude to LGBT community; Canadians, who are also known to express tolerant views, made up 3%, from Britain, one of those countries in great favor of the movement, there were 10% of participants, from Australia - 6% and from other countries – 15%.

According to Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, “Attitudes on homosexuality have been fairly stable in recent years, while American acceptance continues to grow. Religion still plays a significant role in U.S. society, and this shift in perceptions is not so much a move from traditional and toward libertine ethics. It encourages both new views on homosexuality while maintaining traditional stances on fidelity.”
