Do People Choose Success over Love?
Marilyn Monroe once said, “A career is wonderful, but you can’t curl up with it on a cold night.” And the majority of people agree with her statement. Meetville.com (dating app to find the right person) collected these results in a course of a poll, conducted between 10/27/14 and 1/10/15.
In response to the question: “Which one would you rather have: love or success?” 75% of people said definite yes to love and relationships. Out of 28,072 respondents 56% were from the USA, 4% – from Canada, 15% – from Britain, 7% – from Australia and 18% – from other countries.
There always comes a moment when every person has to decide what’s their top priority: successful career or strong and healthy relationships? Kortney Tenaglia, journalist and writer, is sure that “A career can’t give you a family in the traditional sense. If you choose love and family for the right reasons, it will be the best decision you have ever made. When you’re looking back on your life in your 70s or 80s, you'll know that you made the right choice.”
However, choosing the career and devoting your life to it has also some undeniable advantages, according to Kortney Tenaglia: “Careers are incredibly beneficial to our mental health if they are close to our heart. Constantly improving and growing as a professional provides irreplaceable self-esteem. If you sacrifice something you truly love, whether it's Prince Charming or your dream career, you are giving up a part of yourself.”
Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, believes that a person can make money doing actually anything. But people can’t love just any person who comes across their path.
Meetville, a leading mobile dating service, regularly conducts research among its users. Millions of people from the U.S., Canada, Britain and Australia answer hundreds of questions every month.
