Can a Single Parent with Disabled Child Really Expect to Find Love?

People are optimistic and tend to think you can always find an understanding partner, even if you are a parent of a disabled child. Meetville.com (dating app to find the right person) polled 73,121 people on this topic between 5/7/14 and 9/26/14.

Participants were asked: “Would you date a person with disabled children?” The majority (63%) claim they are ready to take on the responsibility of caring for the child.

Hannah Brown, mother of an autistic teenage son Danny and author of “If I Could Tell You,” a book about raising autistic children, admits that “few men are thrilled by the idea of dating someone with a child who has disability, particularly one that can be as demanding as autism. These men are people who may or may not become a part of my life. But Danny is my life,” she goes on. “Middle-aged men in the dating pool are realists. They’ve got to make their child-support payments. They had enough trouble dealing with their own divorces.”

The geography of participants was as follows: from the USA - 88%, from Canada - 2%, from Britain - 4%, from Australia - 2% and from other countries - 4%.

Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, comments on the results: “Dating someone with a disabled child won't make a relationship any easier. Yet meeting a person who has a special needs child is a real responsibility. And from that point of view positive responses of the participants are quite favorable.”
