How Single-Sex Schools Influence Sexual Preferences

“One out of four Americans sees little connection between single-sex education and development of homosexual”
By Alex Glover August 21, 2015

One out of four Americans sees little connection between single-sex education and development of homosexual preferences. In a poll, carried out between 8/25/14 and 10/8/14, Meetville.com (dating app to find the right person) asked people to respond to the following question: “Do single-sex schools promote homosexuality?”

Participants numbered 31,208 and 78% don’t think single-sex schools give rise to homosexuality.

Robert Kennedy, staff-writer, who covered extensively the topic of private schools in his works, claims that “raised in a homophobic society we tend to look at single sex schools through sex colored glasses. Stereotypes are all some children see and understand because they are not exposed to diverse views. They certainly do not want to be intimidated or ostracized because they are different. The truth is that there probably are no more gay and lesbian students in boys' or girls' schools than there are in coeducational schools.”

In this poll participants came from the USA - 57%, from Canada - 4%, from Britain - 12%, from Australia - 7% and from other countries - 20%.

Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, points out that “it is the acceptance of the gay rights in the local community that matters more. Going to a single sex school wouldn't make much difference in promoting it. On the contrary I think it makes the boys and girls think more about the opposite sex because they aren't available,” he says.
