Please read the following safety tips and check each one closely and carefully.
No social networking or dating site is safe, including Meetville. It is important to report people that threaten you to law enforcement.
Anyone who is able to commit identity theft can also falsify a dating profile.
There is no substitute for acting with caution when communicating with any stranger who wants to meet you.
Never include your last name, e-mail address, home address, phone number, place of work, or any other identifying information in your Internet profile or initial e-mail messages. Stop communicating with any person who pressures you for personal or financial information or attempts in any way to trick you into revealing it.
If you choose to have a face-to-face meeting with another member, always tell someone in your family or a friend where you are going and when you will return. Never agree to be picked up at your home. Always provide your own transportation to and from your date and meet in a public place with many people around.
Don’t lie about your age. Lying about your age could lead to your profile being deleted.
Report immediately any harassment, hate speech, nudity, or any other inappropriate content and contact the police if you feel someone might be in danger.
Don’t post things that can hurt you in the future. There are possibilities of being denied admission to a university or even a job based on content that you place in your profile.
Sex with anyone underage is considered rape. It doesn’t matter if you didn’t know how old they were or if they lied about their age. If you have sex with an underage person, you will go to prison.
Don’t be a cyber bully and if you are a victim of a cyber bully, then the best idea is to call the police. Cyber bullying is a crime in many states. You can also block the cyber bully or delete your profile. Be sure to save messages and e-mails to give as evidence to the police and don’t respond to the cyber bully. Assume the worst as you don’t know who you are dealing with. Above all, never meet them.
If suicidal, get help now! If you or anyone you know is dealing with depression, coping, or just life in general, then free help is available. Contact the National Suicide Hotline at 1-800-784-2433 or check out websites such as www.hopeline.com, www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org, or www.suicidehotlines.com.
If threatened, take it seriously. If you see any threats of suicide, violence, or any other illegal content then report it to the police. You don’t want to be the one who could have stopped a tragedy from happening such as school shootings or suicides. Call 911 if you feel threatened or see a threat.
