Why We Don't Need Space Exploration
Vast majority of Americans think space exploration is not worth the money. This was discovered by Meetville (dating app to find the right person), in the course of a new survey, held from 10/2/14 to 10/28/14.
The question was: “What's more important: funding of space exploration or education?” 87% of participants voted for education, 13% - for space exploration.
Total number of respondents was 10,916. From the USA - 60%, from Canada - 4%, from Britain - 13%, Australia - 7% and other countries - 16%.
Dr. Christopher Was, Associate Professor of Educational Psychology at Kent State University, comments: ”Although most people can comprehend the long-term benefits of investment in space exploration, everyday they face educational problems which are not going to go away by themselves. Access to college, the cost of higher education, the relevance of curricula both to real world markets and to human aspirations are questions that bother the society today,” says Christopher.
It should be noted that by a 84% to 16% margin, space exploration is mostly voted for by men.
According to Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, this indicates that while women are more inclined to favor all kinds of social programs and social services, and to regard issue of education, men are more interested in supporting the global issues, like space exploration.
Meetville, a leading mobile dating service, regularly conducts research among its users. Millions of people from the U.S., Canada, Britain and Australia answer hundreds of questions every month.
