What’s the Opinion on Sleeping Separately in a Relationship
Most couples think sleeping in separate beds is not a good idea. This was highlighted in a poll, which was carried out by Meetville.com (dating app to find the right person) between 8/4/14 and 9/19/14.
When asked the following question: “Can couples stay close in different bedrooms in your opinion?” 69% of participants claimed that sleeping separately is unhealthy for the relationship.
“It’s important for couples making this choice to try their best to avoid being influenced by negative social stigma and judgment around sleeping apart and be as creative and innovative in finding solutions that work for them,” assures Manhattan psychologist Dr. Joseph Cilona. “However, while sleeping in separate beds may mean you’re both getting better rest, it can also chip away at the romance or take a toll on overall intimacy,” he adds.
Participants of the poll numbered 38,263. While couples still prefer it traditionally, many of them are facing the same sleeping problems. Participants from the USA made up 55%, from Canada - 4%, from Britain - 12%, from Australia - 7% and from other countries - 22%.
Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, believe “the attitude is largely influenced by the stereotypes we have. It is known that sleeping apart robs a marriage of its special connection. But if you bed down with a partner who snores, tosses relentlessly, traipses to the restroom repeatedly, or hogs the covers? Maybe a good night’s sleep is what your relationship needs.”
Meetville, a leading mobile dating service, regularly conducts research among its users. Millions of people from the U.S., Canada, Britain and Australia answer hundreds of questions every month.
