What People Think About Airbnb

Americans doubt if they should use Airbnb service for vacation rentals. Meetville.com (dating app to find the right person) measured public opinion in a poll, conducted from 7/17/14 to 9/8/14.

The poll posed the question: “Do you use Airbnb?” An overwhelming majority - 88% replied in the negative.

Even Barack Obama's college digs are currently listed on the rental website Airbnb. The property's host, Oren, is sure Airbnb is perfect for those seeking a unique and memorable experience.

However, according to Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky, “The negative reviews are usually coming from people who do not always use Airbnb and who are unfamiliar with its service. Granted, if you do not know what you are doing, you can run into some unprofessional and shady people, which of course fights off the desire to use the service again.”

Meetville.compolled 31,039 people. Having its roots in the USA Airbnb has the most users there as well - 56% of participants. Other countries were not as represented, with 4 % from Canada, 11% - from Britain, 6 % - from Australia and 23% - from other countries.

Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, comments: “Airbnb has grown not only globally, but also from appealing to both couchsurfing budget-conscious tourists and to business travelers. But the risks of renting from a person on the internet—however small—still exist regardless of the location.”
