What Parents Decide on Circumcision
What Parents Decide on Circumcision
Most parents choose to have their sons circumcised. Meetville.com (dating app to find the right person) found out that parents rely on medical studies when making a decision about circumcision.
In the poll, which was carried out between 6/1/14 and 7/15/14, the following question was posed: “Should a male baby be circumcised?” Majority of respondents (59%) decide to carry out the surgery.
According to Elana Pearl Ben-Joseph, MD, “parents who choose circumcision often do so based on religious beliefs, concerns about hygiene, or cultural or social reasons, such as the wish to have their son look like other men in the family.”
Participants of the poll numbered 72,175. The results indicate that the biggest concern towards the issue is expressed in the USA - 89% of those polled, whereas other countries are significantly less represented in the poll: Canada - 2%, Britain - 3%, Australia - 3% and other countries - 3%
Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, relates the figures to the fact that this procedure is much more widespread in the United States, Canada, and the Middle East than in Asia, South America, Central America, and most of Europe, where it's uncommon.
Meetville, a leading mobile dating service, regularly conducts research among its users. Millions of people from the U.S., Canada, Britain and Australia answer hundreds of questions every month.
