Vast Majority of Americans Prefer Family Life to a Successful Career
For most people, regardless of gender, family is still more important than career. A survey, conducted from 6/2/14 to 8/12/14 by Meetville (dating app to find the right person), measures public opinion on this matter.
Participants of the poll were asked: “Could you quit your job for family’s sake?”. Their responses were: Yes - 74% and No - 26%.
Out of 45,898 of respondents, the USA was represented by 70% of votes, Canada - 3%, Britain - 9%, Australia - 6% and other countries - 12%.
Economist Sylvia Ann Hewlett believes that public responses reflect the idea that stay-at-home-parenting is now a more respected life choice than it has been in the past. “More people than ever feel that being a good parent is a significant accomplishment in life.”
Among those who agreed to leave their job, 65% were male votes and 35% - female. Among those who would rather pursue their career: male -47%, female - 53%.
Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, states the statistics indicates that men can feel the same tug of war between work and family that women feel. It also shows that women are beginning to value success in their careers more than men value their own.
Meetville, a leading mobile dating service, regularly conducts research among its users. Millions of people from the U.S., Canada, Britain and Australia answer hundreds of questions every month.
