People's Opinion on Gay Superheroes as Kids' Role Models

“We love superheroes. Everyone does, and probably knows a bundle of them! Superheroes work on”
By Alex Glover March 12, 2021

We love superheroes. Everyone does, and probably knows a bundle of them! Superheroes work on making the world better by having fights with bad guys and rescuing people who got into trouble. But actually, their true superpower is something that inspires other people to be lies in inspiring everyday people to be courageous and fearless!

That is why LGBTQ superheroes are true masterminds! Here is the list of the best comic book superheroes to learn from.

Clues about Iceman's true nature could have appeared in the early nineties but weren't open until 2015. At that time, with the help of Gina Gray everything became official: Bobby Drake is gay. Since then, Iceman has had a separate story, developed by illustrator Sina Grace. In this story he fought bad guys and had hard times dating other gay men. Iceman has since become one of our all-time favorite superheroes.

  • PYRO

He was a popular X-Men supervillain for decades, but in 2018, Pyro's sexuality was revealed after he slept with no one other than Iceman. In Gold Issue # 32 of the X-Men, we can see two towel-wrapped stallions discussing how much fun they had last night.

When Alpha Squad was released as a standalone comic series in 1983, creator John Burn wanted to make Northstar gay. However, editor-in-chief Jim Shooter banned openly queer superheroes. That was until 1992, when Northstar was finally able to utter the words "I'm gay," making him the very first Marvel hero to come out in comics. In 2012, he made history again by getting married.

He has been a core member of the X-Men for over 40 years, but did you know that Colossus met Northstar in the Modern X-Men storyline? In the same storyline, he temporarily left X-Men due to unrequited feelings for his teammate Wolverine.

Introduced in the late eighties, Rictor has always been a minor character in the pages of X-Force. But when he was brought back to the game in 2005, we started getting clues regarding Rictor's true nature. Since coming out as one of the modern queer heroes of the universe, Rictor has fully embraced his identity as a gay man. This made him one of the few canon gay superheroes in Marvel.

This is not a complete list, of course, and we all know there are much more LGBT superheroes these days! However, the topic is still controversial.

Meetville research

Majority believe that introducing gay comic book heroes is acceptable for children. Meetville.com (dating app to find the right person) measured public opinion in a poll, conducted recently.

Out of 35,093 participants, 59% supported the idea when asked the question: “Can a superhero-gay/lesbian be a role model for your children?”

However, a group called “One Million Moms” stood up to the changes: “Children desire to be just like superheroes. Children mimic superhero actions and even dress up in costumes to resemble these characters as much as possible. Can you imagine little boys saying, ‘I want a boyfriend or husband like X-Men? Adult gay men want to indoctrinate impressionable young minds by placing these gay characters on pedestals in a positive light.”

The homosexual agenda has already hit many countries. There were 54% of participants from the USA who consider gay portrayal of superheroes acceptable, only 5% - from Canada, 11% - from Britain, 7% - from Australia and 23% - from other countries .

Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, concludes that “By printing comic book covers showing gay marriage and men kissing within the publication's pages, the industry indeed is planting seeds in young minds that this is a cultural norm. But if it is a realistic depiction of our society, should we accept it for our children as well?” he inquires.

Meetville, a leading mobile dating service, regularly conducts research among its users. Millions of people from the U.S., Canada, Britain and Australia answer hundreds of questions every month. You can find the results of the poll here. If you are interested in research on a particular topic, please contact us.
