People Prefer Going to the Movies over Playing Board Games, Survey Says
As great as it is that new technologies and services are making it easier for audiences around the globe to watch and share content, the cinema still reigns supreme. This was revealed in a poll, conducted by Meetville.com (dating app to find the right person) between 4/29/14 and 8/29/14.
The poll posed the question: “Would you rather spend an evening playing board games or going to movies?” The majority of 78% would rather go to the movies than play a board game.
According to Chris Dodd, Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, “In today’s busy world of traffic, noisy airports, emails and conference calls, people are often in search of a chance to get away. The cinema provides that sense of escape. A sanctuary where the audience can forget their cares or their daily lives and let themselves be transported into a gripping story. It is that special experience, that escape, that will ensure the global film industry and the theater-going audience remain strong for a very long time to come.”
Number of respondents 87,381. From the USA - 50%, from Canada 4%, from Britain - 12%, Australia – 6% and other countries – 28%.
Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, believes the figures indicate that “The demand across the globe for the cinema-going experience has not yet fallen and it retains its charm and appeal in this digital age.”
