Out of Sight, out of Trouble. 54% Would Not Allow Cell Phones in Schools

The question of whether cell phones should be allowed in schools has been hotly debated over the years. It was addressed by Meetville.com (dating app to find the right person) in a poll, conducted from 4/17/14 to 9/3/14.

The poll posed the question: “Should cell phones be allowed in school?”, to which the responses were: “Yes” - 46%, “No” - 54%.

Grace Chen, an education researcher and writer, appeals to both sides of the question: “students today are exposed to endless technological advances, the use of cell phones seems to be an often ignored modern-day issue. While cell phones certainly offer students increased communication abilities, providing students with a tool for added safety and parent contact, many school leaders assert that cellphones are a severe distraction in the educational process.”

Participants numbered 84,942. From the USA - 47%, from Canada - 4%, from Britain - 14%, from Australia - 8% and from other countries - 27%.

Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, comments that “The arguments for and against allowing students to use their phones in school hold merit. And it is for the parents, school administrators and teachers to find the middle ground that can satisfy everyone’s concerns on this issue.”
