Is Karma a Myth or Reality?

What goes around comes around. Majority of people believe that whatever you do, good or bad, will eventually return to you. This was discovered by Meetville (dating app to find the right person) over a survey, conducted between 2/13/14 and 12/15/14. The question posed in the poll was “Do you believe in karma?” Only 35% of people polled doubt the existence of it.

The total number of participants was 205,966. From the USA – 97%, from Canada – 1%, from Britain – 1%, and Australia – 1%.

According to Joseph Castro, Professor of Educational Leadership, “People use the word karma in ways that are not wholly consistent with its traditional meaning. For example, karma is often misused to denote luck, destiny or fate. Karma is also misused as a way to explain sudden hardships.” But actually karma means a different thing. He goes on: “Karma generally denotes the cycle of cause and effect — each action a person takes will affect him or her at some time in the future. This rule also applies to a person's thoughts and words, and the actions other people take under that individual's instructions.”

Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, reckons that people desperately want to believe that life isn’t as mundane and banal as it may seem. They need something to wait for, to look up to. Something that will ensure their everyday actions are important in the universal scheme of things.
