How Many People Think Abortion Is Always Wrong
Abortion has always been a controversial topic. Some people consider it a medical procedure, others believe that it is definitely a murder. Meetville.com (dating app to find the right person) revealed this fact during a poll, conducted between 10/16/14 and 1/9/15. The poll posed the question: “What is abortion - a surgery or a murder of an unborn child?”
The total number of respondents was 56,164. From the USA - 64%, from Canada 3%, from Britain - 10%, Australia – 6% and other countries – 17%.
Many scientist consider abortion killing of a living creature. Dr. Micheline M. Mathews-Roth, Harvard Medical School, referenced medical textbooks that claimed that human life begins at conception. Dr. Jerome Lejeune, "Father of Modern Genetics," stated, "To accept the fact that after fertilization has taken place, a new human has come into being is no longer a matter of taste or opinion ... it is plain experimental evidence." Dr. Hymie Gordon, Chairman Department of Genetics at the Mayo Clinic, added: "By all the criteria of modern molecular biology, life is present from the moment of conception."
People have multiple mixed feelings on that issue. Tom Head, Civil Liberties Expert, believes: “If a woman and her physician think they're killing a non-sentient organism, then--even if the embryo or fetus were, unbeknownst to them, a sentient human person--they would not be committing murder. At most, they would be guilty of involuntary manslaughter. But even involuntary manslaughter involves criminal negligence, and it would be very hard to judge someone criminally negligent for not personally believing that a pre-viable embryo or fetus is a sentient human person when we don't actually know this to be the case. From the point of view of someone who believes that every fertilized egg is a sentient human person, abortion would be horrific. Tragic. Lethal. But it would be no more murderous than any other kind of accidental death.”
Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, says: “When it comes to abortion there are always different opinions. It is definitely one of the most hot debated issues. I think that it’s pretty hard to define who is right and who is wrong. There is probably no exact answer. Everything depends on an individual’s personal beliefs and views.”
Meetville, a leading mobile dating service, regularly conducts research among its users. Millions of people from the U.S., Canada, Britain and Australia answer hundreds of questions every month.
