Americans Can’t Control Their Appetite for Meat

“Many people are interested in the health benefits of vegetarianism, but giving up meat completely”
By Alex Glover April 19, 2021

Many people are interested in the health benefits of vegetarianism, but giving up meat completely seems difficult. In a survey, held  from 3/21/14 to 8/21/14 by Meetville.com (dating app to find the right person), people were asked to express their preferences: "Meat eaters or vegetarians?"

The results were dominated by meat eaters - 76%, and vegan and vegetarians - 24%.

Out of 128,023 participants the majority was from the USA - 61%, from Canada - 3%, from Britain - 9%, from Australia - 6% and from other countries - 21%.

According to nutritionist Ian Marber both meat and vegetarian diet have to be wisely planned. Nowadays vegetarians support their idea with ethical, environmental and health-related reasons. However, meat-eaters challenge these arguments. Vegetarian diet has a lot of limitations whereas if you’re a meat eater you always have quick access to a great variety of products. Both diets can be a healthy choice as long they are well-balanced, thinks Ian Marber.

Additional statistics shows that meat eaters are mostly supported by men: male - 70%, female - 30%.

Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, comments on the results: "Although the benefits of a vegetarian diet are still disputed, it has a tangible advantage - which is weight loss. Women are usually more concerned with this problem and therefore are more likely to take up a vegetarian diet. Men, however, mostly think of physical exercises as a way to keep fit and are more likely to neglect nutrition issues."

Meetville, a leading mobile dating service, regularly conducts research among its users. Millions of people from the U.S., Canada, Britain and Australia answer hundreds of questions every month.
