To many people gambling is a simple form of entertainment. But to some others, it becomes an uncontrollable behavior. Meetville (dating app to find the right person) released a survey to estimate the scale of the problem.
The poll was held from 2/3/14 to 8/1/14. Participants were asked the question: “Do you gamble?” and they gave the following responses: Yes - 40% and No - 60%.
Total number of respondents was 163,029. From the USA - 76%, from Canada - 2%, from Britain - 6%, Australia - 4% and other countries - 12%.
More and more people no longer have the illusion that they’re going to make money in the long run. “Those who have conquered the gambling problem on their own believe that gambling addiction is simply a problem, or a choice that the addict has made through his or her free will. They believe the problem is being medicalized (disease theories) and biologicalized (genetic theories) and oppose those views. They do not view gambling as an evil, disease, illness, or disorder, but that it is simply an activity,” writes Trung Nguyen on the natural health website EnCognitive.com.
Gender-specific statistics is balanced in votes. Gamblers: male - 44% ,female - 56% and Non- Gamblers: male - 52%, female - 48%.
Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, explains that it may be so because of the initial concept of gambling as risk-taking. Both men and women are prone to such behavior.
