People Believe That Pregnancy Cannot Force Women to Marry

“People are much more accepting of unmarried parents now than they were before. The tendency”

People are much more accepting of unmarried parents now than they were before. The tendency was highlighted by Meetville.com (dating app to find the right person) in a poll, which was carried out between 7/9/14 and 10/10/14.

The total number of 40,029 responded to the following question: “If a man gets a woman pregnant, must they marry?” 65% of those polled do not consider marriage a reasonable solution.

In accordance with public views, the author of the book on motherhood “Promises I Can Keep”, Millie Acevedo believes: “Such marriages are almost certain to end in divorce, and thus benefit neither the couple nor the child.”

The Knot Yet Report offers the following observation: “Culturally, young adults have increasingly come to see marriage as a ‘capstone’ rather than a ‘cornerstone’—that is, something they do after they have all their ducks in a row, rather than a foundation for launching into adulthood and parenthood.”

Among the 65% majority, who do not support marriage because of pregnancy, one out of three participants were women - 26%. By comparison the percentage of female votes in favor of marriage was lower - 17%. The geography of the participants was as follows: USA - 55% of votes, Canada - 4%, Britain - 11%, Australia - 8% and other countries - 22%.

Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, explains the results: “Women are more sentimental. They don’t want the marriage to be a ploy. Most of them wish to marry someone they would love and who would love them back, not because it made filing taxes easier or made hospital paperwork more efficient.”
