Let’s face it, sex is often awkward. Just as Jim from “American Pie” is constantly making a fool out of himself and is involved in different sex-related incidents, every year, one third of adults injure themselves during sex. Some injuries can be so bad that they are forced to take time off work to recover. Moreover, the passionate intercourse often leaves the house in ruins as well. Meetville.com released the infographic covering the types of sex injuries, dangerous spots to have sex and and the damage it may cause to the surrounding objects.

Statistics prove that most people realize they were injured during sex intercourse only on the following morning. Dr. Kevin Jardine,health and fitness expert, singled out the main reason for such careless behavior: “During sex, endorphins are running high. Endorphins are the body’s natural version of morphine, known as “feel good” hormones. If you are in an awkward position during sex, you might not feel the discomfort because of the endorphins floating around your body, which tend to blunt the perception of pain.” As a result all kinds of muscle and joint injuries occur, together with carpet burns and bruises.

Passionate sex often results not only in sprained wrists and twisted ankles, but also in broken chairs and shattered cups. Of course, enjoying a glass of wine to get in the mood is common – but make sure that you put the glasses somewhere safe. Wine glasses are the second most broken item during sex – only beds break more frequently. It is easy to avoid any painful cuts by clearing away glasses before you get busy.

Some couples, to spice things up in their love life, seek out new places to have sex. Others just happen to find themselves turned on at inconvenient times. The streamy scene between Daniel Craig and Bérénice Marlohe in “Skyfall” marks off a veritable checklist of sexy location scenarios: In the shower? On a boat? But real life sex is not a movie scene, and these places may leave you uncomfortable, bruised and in big trouble.

Think of it, there is just no room for two people to comfortably make love in a bathtub. Someone has to have their knees on the hard, porcelain bottom, someone else is pinned to the bottom of the tub. The danger of any position enjoyable for a woman in the shower is not worth it as well. Being lifted up by the guy, for example, puts you both at risk of falling. You have water pouring down your faces and can hardly breathe.

Alex Cusper, Meetville analyst, points out that firstly, sex is a physical exercise and if you do not have a basic level of fitness, your body is vulnerable to injury. But apart from that, some caution won’t spoil the romance, and it’s better not to follow the Hollywood pattern in choosing places for sex and remove dangerous objects beforehand. That way you’ll not have to spend the following days bandaging your sprained ankle or cleaning up the mess around the house.
