How Many People Would Consider Dating a Disabled Person

“Unfortunately, most people who aren't disabled have a hard time accepting disabilities in their loved”

Unfortunately, most people who aren't disabled have a hard time accepting disabilities in their loved ones. This was brought up by a poll, conducted by Meetville.com (dating app to find the right person) in the period from 6/23/14 to 9/8/14.

People were asked: “Would you date someone who is disabled?” The results indicated that 54% would dismiss a disabled person. Yet, 46% admitted disability is not a barrier for them.

The story of Nick Vujicic, who was born without limbs, has inspired millions of young people all over the world. His wife Kanae Miyahara tells: “To me it wasn’t any different falling in love with Nick. Because I had dated other guys and I had gone for the physical, I was tired of that, and the moment I met Nick I was looking for other things, and all those things I found in him. So that’s when I felt like wow, he’s not only boyfriend material, but he could be my husband.”

50,921 people responded. Most of the participants were from the USA - 49%, yet, the topic also drew the attention of our followers in other countries: Canada - 4%, Britain - 12%, Australia - 7% and other countries - 28%.

Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, explains that “Disabled people are treated differently from culture to culture. Although dating a person with disability is a hard choice, these people are no more ignored by the public worldwide.”
