3 Best Tips for Texting After a Great First Date

“Texting has become such a mainstream form of communication. It’s easy, it’s short and to”

Texting has become such a mainstream form of communication. It’s easy, it’s short and to the point, and it helps you to stay fresh in somebody’s mind. It’s truly no wonder then that you may find that you have the temptation to text after a first date. This can be just fine if you keep a couple of things in mind before you send that text. You don’t want to give too much away with your texts. You also don’t want to say anything to them in a text that you wouldn’t say in person.

Hiding behind the phone to say things that you aren’t really ready for is never a good idea. You want to let them know that you had a good time or that you want to see them again. You don’t want to come off as pushy or rude, and you certainly don’t want your texts to hurt any chances that you may have in the future.

Here’s what to consider before you send that text as a follow up to the first date.

1. Keep it short and sweet:

Do not turn your text into a novel for nobody wants to read that. Keep it short and sweet and let it be a nice little follow-up. This is just to convey a thought or to reiterate what a great time you had. This is not a forum to get into feelings or anything too deep. The nature of a text is that it gives you a way of reaching out for something quickly. Don’t get pulled into texts so that they are a substitution for other forms of communication either. Keep it simple, to the point, and know that this is a great way of communicating if you remember those rules.

2. Don’t give too much away or be too promiscuous with your texts:

Sexting is never a good idea, particularly early on. Remember that these texts can be shared. Remember that you never know where the person may be when they are reading your text. Just know that texts are not the way to put yourself out there or come on too strong. If you wouldn’t say or do it in person, then do not put it out there in a text. Keep that rule in mind and you will be just fine, otherwise, it could hurt future date potential.

3. Don’t push too hard for next steps or say too much:

You also want to be very careful not to push for a next date through text. It can be misconstrued and your tone is not apparent as it is through a phone call or face to face communication.  Texts are not a place to discuss the future of your relationship. It pays to remember that and keep them simple, fun, and an extension of your face to face dialogue. Remember that and you’ll be just fine with texting!
