A few days ago we received a message from Maria asking for our advice. Here’s what she wrote:
“I met my boyfriend on Meetville a month ago. Things were going really great until one of my friends (who’s also on Meetville) told me that my boyfriend has just updated his online dating profile and it seems like he is using it quite actively. Does it mean that we are not dating anymore? Or should I pretend that everything is okay?”
To be honest, Maria’s case is quite common around couples who met online. Even when you found your perfect match, you can’t stop chatting with other people. And it doesn’t always have to be something romantical or sexual. Online dating apps and websites are great for making friends or just chatting with people with common interests.
However, a lot of people are actually bothered by the fact that their partner is using online dating apps. If you are one of them, you should ask yourself these 3 important questions.
What are you expecting from your relationship?
Even if you have been dating for a short period of time, you still should be able to see where this relationship is heading. If you are just having fun and don’t really think about the future right now, maybe there is nothing to worry about. It’s pretty obvious that when your partner doesn’t feel that your relationship is getting more serious, he/she wants to keep their options open.
Are you “exclusive”?
Being exclusive for each other is a pretty important step in your relationship. If you both are ready to make this step, you should be aware that chatting with other people online may hurt your partner. Dating irl or online when you are in an exclusive relationship is not possible. If you still caught your partner on chatting with singles online, maybe you should look at your relationship from the other side and talk it through with your partner.
Have you talked to your partner?
This is the most important part. Don’t get stressed out until you actually hear your partner’s side of the story. Maybe there is actually nothing to worry about or maybe they were postponing this talk for a while already. In any case, clearing things out with your partner will only benefit your relationship and will make the two of you become aware of what is going n with your dating life.
Hopefully, your relationship will work out the best way possible. But if you’ll realize that it’s hard for you to develop relationships with this person, you can always find someone new on Meetville! Don’t forget to install Meetville app on Android and iOS right now and go on a date with local singles!
