I heard a radio show recently, where one of the guests asked something to the effect of "When were you so happy that you just shouted at the top of your voice?" I realized that it had been a great long time since I did something like that. Quite simply, that is what I am looking for.I want to be that happy with someone. I know, I know... I dont want to live in some fairy-tale land where we fart rainbows and sleep on cotton candy pillows. But I do want to know that my relationship has the potential for us both to be that freakin' happy. At this point in my life I have had some of my dreams come true. I live in the home I can see myself staying in for the next 60 years. I've visited over a dozen countries. I have a job I enjoy. I've been in love and have been loved. I also know the pain of being betrayed by the person you trust the most in the whole world. I'm over it, believe me, but it has shaped the way I will work on making future relationships succeed. One last dream is to again become a husband, and in time a father. If that is not on your long term agenda, we are not a long term couple. That is not to say that I wont meet or date someone who does not share this goal, but ultimately I want to be a dad.I am very fortunate in that I am able to start every day in a good mood. The first thing I do after waking up is to walk outside and tend to my small flock of chickens and ducks. No matter what life throws at you, I don't think you can watch these birds and leave unhappy. (Lone exception is when the rooster attacks me, but even then I know he is doing a good job protecting his hens. That is not to say I shun the city, technology, or anything like that. Work takes me into the city on a daily basis. I just get to enjoy peace and quiet when I get home. So, what makes my life so much more satisfying now? Besides the chickens and the fresh eggs...(Have you ever had a truly FRESH egg? You can't go back to supermarket eggs once you have had the real deal.) I love to cook. I am a pizza junkie. I don't think I've eaten a frozen pizza in 8 years and even living in Papa John's back yard, I have avoided his fare for about the same amount of time. I get a hog butchered from a friend of mine every year and cure my own hams and bacon. Problem is, there isn't one! I don't think that I've made it the same way twice, although every time it is fantastic. I actually do other things besides cook, eat, and think about cooking and eating. I enjoy working outside at my little hobby farm and I garden extensively. I also like visiting museums in the city. I enjoy shopping for antiques. I don't buy just wall hangers, I like to put them to use around the house. I have successfully stayed out of a mall for about three years. I watch sports, but I am not a fanatic about any of them. Seeing people go ape over some college or pro team is puzzling to me. I'll watch the big championship games, sure, but I'm not going to schedule my life around when U of Whoever comes on TV. Maybe even 3/4ths!!! Its not a deal breaker, but don't expect me to know who coaches what around here. My match would be a woman who is crafty, funny, beautiful, and family oriented. She would have to "get it" and understand why my decision to move to the country is important. It is not for everyone. I really want a partner. A partner in life and love. I want to share inside jokes with her. I want to find someone who I feel comfortable enough sharing my innermost "me" with. I like going out and doing new things. I like road trips and shaking things up a little. A little crazy is okay. A lot of crazy, all of the time...ehh, not so much. I have one labrador that I fully believe can detect the "crazy" aura around certain people. If he likes you, you're golden. An informal setting, a favorite craft brewery perhaps, or a place with superior food choices. (No chains!) I loathe movies as destinations for the first few dates, because we sit in silence for at least two hours. I have, however, been known to sneak a flask into a movie from time to time. Social lubrication never hurts.
