My ideal first date begins with a joke and a smile, includes a bunch of laughing, followed perhaps by a little awkwardness, a number of insightful observations about the state of the world today, and ends with a plan to meet again soon. Where this happens exactly isn't particularly important. A bar, cafe or a park will do just fine. Then I go home and think it all over, get kind of excited about meeting a new person who made my life a little more fun and definitely more interesting.
