I want to fall madly in love with my best friend who effortlessly makes me laugh so hard that my stomach hurts. We'll build a little house with a breakfast nook and a garden, and I'll make jam from the berries that grow out back while you wax up our skis (or vice versa--this is a partnership, after all). Eventually, we'll have a couple of smart, beautiful kids and we'll show them this beautiful world. Or not. My friends would say that I'm outgoing, funny, smart, and great at keeping in touch and keeping a wide circle of lovely and diverse people in my life. But these are my friends. It's their job to say those things. I think I'm a good balance between academic and spontaneous, silly and serious, social and reclusive. I used to talk too much, but I'm working on that. I can be impulsive and am also working on taking a deep breath before jumping in. Or maybe not jumping at all. We're all works in progress, right?I'm passionate about and within my relationships, about being a part of something greater than myself, about my writing and the literary traditions that inform it, about those break-through moments with a student who didn't know what she was capable of. I'm passionate about hollandaise sauce and Ashtanga yoga, although sometimes I give up both. Our best days are when we sleep in, cook together or go out for brunch, and then build a bookcase or a coffee table. Or when I get up early to make breakfast burritos so we can hit the road and beat the crowds to Fenway (I'll be rooting for the Yankees, btw). Or when my ship comes in after six weeks at sea and you're on the dock to meet me. Our best nights are when we go to bed early because we can't keep our hands off each other. Or when we stay up late having drinks and great conversation with our fabulous friends who don't resent us for beating them so badly in Cranium.I'm looking for someone who enjoys playing on the edge but is mature enough that he won't cross over the line.
