I usually respond to anyone who messages me because:a) I think it's rude not to after someone has been brave enough to make the first move.b) sometimes a picture and a couple of lines of text are not enough to get a sense of someone (although, sometimes, it's way more than enough) and I like to give you the chance to change my mind.c) I can't think of a third thing. While I respond to messages, in the interest of saving both of our time, I will be honest and tell you if I I don't feel a connection to you, please don't take this personally. I would hope that you would do the same for me. I'm an editor and writer by trade, so things like spelling, grammar and the ability to put a cohesive sentence together are important to me. I'm not really interested in spending weeks trading messages. If you're interested in me and I'm interested in you, why not just get together for coffee or a drink and have a good chat in person? An hour or two of your time has got to be worth it if you're going to spend those hours/weeks/months messaging me anyhow. Coffee seems mostly harmless. I'm open to other options as well, as long as it's in an environment conducive to holding a discussion.
