I like to think I'm a decent 'genuine' guy... pretty laid-back and down-to-earth - I don't do drama, don't take myself too seriously and like to have a good laugh at the world. Career-wise, I'm a software engineer working in aerospace... not quite a rocket scientist, but not far off ;) I have a PhD. in software engineering - this probably puts me firmly in the 'nerd' category for many people, but I'm really not that bad (honest). As you may imagine (correctly as it turns out), the dating pool in my line of work is pretty shallow, and as most of my friends are now settled down with kids I thought it was time to broaden my horizons a little. I have a pretty wide range of interests and I always enjoy learning new things. I love to travel and visit new places.... it would be great to have someone with whom to share the journey (both real and metaphorical). I love music in general (although not much of an opera fan)... Favourite genres are indie, Americana and rock (not the 'woarrrgh!!!' metal variety). I enjoy going to gigs all over the country - but I prefer small venues to arenas...especially as it always rains when I go to festivals :) I'm a bit of a car nut... which is a tad embarrassing to the 'eco-friendly' side of my nature. I love F1 and would love to have a go in one of those cars ...just for a day please?). Enjoy watching most sports and I'll give almost anything a go at least once. I enjoy humour especially wordplay and I'm a big fan of Tim Minchin (but these days who isn't?), Dara O'Briain and the late great Bill Hicks. Monty Python's Flying Circus (series and films) form a major part of my humour and I also enjoy going to stand-up comedy nights. I have a pretty dry, satirical sense of humour myself, but I try to keep the sarcasm at bay ;)I love films of all sorts, so long as the plot isn't full of holes (Prometheus I'm looking at you!). I read a lot of books... mostly fantasy and sci-fi -R. I don't watch a great deal of TV these days, but the Game of Thrones adaption is pretty good so far.Favourite foods include Italian, Chinese and French cuisine and partial to a bit of sushi too. Also an appreciation for good cheesecake (but not with sushi). I also love good coffee and try to keep Whittards in business single-handed ;)Things I dislike... well, not much really. *** and those that hold extreme political or religious views. Also macaroni cheese... eew.Still unconvinced? Well, I got my friend Milka to write a testimonial, which was absolutely not extracted from her by, just for example, threatening to hang her upside down by her ankles over a tank full of hungry piranhas... "This person here is a genuine, warm and caring man. He is a great friend that always has important and helpful advice. He is intelligent, funny and sweet. Also he is not just one of the many 'options' here (something that with the number of people on here it is easy to forget). He is a person you will want to know. He is a person you will be happy that you responded to. I could write a lot more about why he is a such a great person but that would rob you of the joy and the surprise in discovering it for yourself. I have been his friend for some time now and I know what I am talking about. P.S. If you are nervous about meeting him he is easily approachable with coffee and cheesecake."So there you go... give yourself a brownie point if you're still reading (can be traded in at any time). If you want more detailed information, references (or simply fancy meeting sometime for the aforementioned coffee and cheesecake) or just want to let me know you enjoyed any of this rubbish... then drop me a line or two and I'll get back to you.... However, whilst I hate to reduce my chances of actually getting any mail to nearly zero, if your body type could be 'politely' described as a 'BBW', you have sleeve tattoos, multiple facial piercings or have a greater command of txt speak than the English language, then it is unlikely that we will hit it off... also don't expect a reply if you don't have the courage to post your pic! 2) I use the phone app... I'm not 'online ***so if I don't get back to you right away I'm not *** probably3) I put 'looking for a relationship', but I'm not naive enough to think you can just get to that stage without going out on a few dates a few times first!4) No piranhas were hurt during the making of this profile I don't have an 'ideal' first date... that always seems a bit contrived as it should be doing something that both enjoy (i.e. tailored for the occasion) but meeting for coffee and a chat is a good place to start... then if we get along we can take it from there.
