About Me

I'm a blues and big-band jazz aficionado, a foodie who loves farmers' markets and restaurants of every ethnicity as well as my own kitchen, a voracious reader who spends hours in bookstores (when I can find them ... sigh). I'm seriously into anything involving Shakespeare, Bogart, and Cary Grant, I love Marx Brothers and W.C. Fields movies, and can (and, to the consternation of my friends, sometimes do) quote lines from the original Star Trek series. I'm loyal, kind, and honest. I'd describe myself as a dark-eyed blonde with a curvy build, and I work as an editor and writer for a science journal that's based in London. I'm back in Mystic after an 11-year hiatus in DC, and I love it ... it's home. I like doing the usual stuff -- besides those elusive secondhand bookstores, and farmers markets, I love the beach, blues, wine tastings (love a good Chard, but have an adventuresome palate), some movies, cooking, art galleries. I like being outside (well, from April through October), but I'm not hugely athletic, so six-hour mountain hikes and marathon runs are off the table. I'm looking for a committed relationship that could lead to marriage, and would like to meet a man who's warm and affectionate, conversational and easy-going, enjoys live music and good restaurants, and likes to read. Divorced is fine, but I won't respond to anyone who is separated. I also won't respond to anyone whose first language is not English -- communication is vital to me. Please note that I prefer a Caucasian.     I've done the online dating thing, spent lots of money, and have come up empty. I may be a glutton for punishment, or maybe I have a severe case of denial.I love sports. Most of 'em. No NASCAR, wrestling, boxing, but pretty much everything else. I'm an ESPN junkie. I've been told guys like that, but I haven't found that to be true. I'd like to find the exception. Besides sports, I do take music seriously. Progressive rock is the mainstay of my musical diet, though heavy metal and hard rock are not too far behind. If you know any prog groups, that's a real bonus, because that means concerts! I'd love to meet a guy who's into movies, history (not politics), travel, and can hold his own in Trivial Pursuit. He should be in decent shape (I work out 5 days a week) and take care of himself. Family is important to me, and should be for him as well. No smokers, please: I'm one of the few holdouts in a family of smokers (which is why they all live in another state).Usually on first dates, it's meeting up at the nearest Starbucks or Barnes and Noble. Go with the public places to start. If things work out from there, depending on where we are, it might lead to walking around the area or going out to dinner (that's only happened once). Going to a movie is certainly a good option. I do love movies, but haven't gone to many as much as I used to.
