Do We Cheat When We Chat?

Chatting isn’t as innocent as we are used to think. Especially when it is all about . Such opinion was supported by 70% of voters, who answered the question «Is chatting online considered cheating?» on the Meetville ( app to find the right person).

The survey was held from 4/17/14 to 7/17/14 and found out that sex chatting is considered cheating by 70% of men and 30% of women. While answer «No» chose 81% of men and 19% of women.

Dr. Katherine Hertlein, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, believes that online chatting is set up perfectly to facilitate cheating. “It’s affordable, accessible and anonymous”, explains Hertlein. “And since communicating online with friends and family is also acceptable, behaviors that border on cheating territory often go unnoticed”.

The total number of respondents was 55,998. 51% of them live in the USA, 12% – in Britain, 7% – in Australia, 4% – in Canada and 26% in other countries.

Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, explains the results as follows: today people care not only about the physical side of their relationship but also about the moral component of it. And not only sexual contacts are considered cheating. Thinking about other partners and even flirting on the web can cause jealousy.
