Meeting your date’s friends is a very important step in your relationships. Though, it doesn’t always go as expected. If you have noticed that your partner acts differently when you are meeting their friends, this is the sign there might be something wrong with your relationship.
There might be two reasons why your partner changes when they are with friends.
The first reason is connected with his/her social insecurity or anxiety. Your partner wants to impress you and subconsciously tries to act cooler than he/she actually is.
The second reason is less pleasant. Sometimes men and women act not the same when they are with their friends than when they are with you. The reason for that may be because they are hiding who they really are. Of course, we all want to seem better on a first date but hiding your real personality is not a sign of a healthy relationship. If this happened you should ask yourself who is your partner in reality: the one who is dating you or the one you see with friends. And do you really know your partner?
What to do if your date acts like someone else with their friends?
The easiest way to find out what’s going on with your partner is simply asking. If they have nothing to hide, there won’t be a problem in answering your question. At least, in this case, you will get an honest and clear reason and would be able to prevent it from happening again.
Put it another way
Think about this situation again: did your date change a lot from how he acts usually? Of course, meeting close friends makes us feel more relaxed and your partner would never keep the romantic attitude from your dates when hanging out with friends. Try to put it another way, you should be roughly the same person with a date, a good friend, a co-worker, or a stranger.
Choose what you want
If your date’s behavior makes you feel anxious and the tips from above don’t seem to be working, maybe this kind of relationship is not for you. Find yourself a partner who will be confident enough to not hide their real personality and stay consistent in different situations.
